Dr Dominique Thompson MB ChB 1995 Bristol MRCGP DFFP

Director of Service

‘I have been a GP for 12 years, and have always been particularly interested in young people’s health care; I was an expedition medic with Raleigh International, worked as a police surgeon looking after victims of rape and sexual assault, and I have spent 10 years at Students’ Health, where I have set up a specialised Eating Disorder service. I also have a special interest in dermoscopy.’

Dr Joanne Mobbs BSc MB ChB 1997 Bristol MRCGP DRCOG DFFP

Deputy Director of Service

‘I undertook my medical training in Bristol following a degree in Microbiology. I joined the practice in 2003 and have always enjoyed all the aspects of healthcare that our student population requires. I am the Sexual Health lead and provide routine appointments in addition to Intrauterine Contraception appointments. I have a young family and also enjoy keeping fit.’

Dr Emma Webb MB ChB 1994 Bristol MRCGP DRCOG DFFP

‘I studied at Bristol and have been working here for 12 years. I am interested in all aspects of student health. I enjoy being part of a team that is committed to delivering a high standard of care to its patients.’

Dr Clare Grant MB ChB 1990 Bristol MD BSc MRCGP DRCOG

‘I have been a GP at Students’ Health Service since 2001. I am interested in all aspects of student health and aim to provide a high standard of care to all my patients. I offer coil and implant fitting appointments. One of my other roles at the Students’ Health Service is to lead the practice’s NHS funded research interests.’

Dr Amy Goodfellow MB ChB 1995 Manchester BSc MRCGP DFFP

‘I joined the practice in 2003. I enjoy specialising in the various healthcare needs of our student population. As well as general surgeries I offer intrauterine contraception appointments. Outside work I aim to keep fit and spend time with my young family.’

Dr Fiona Hayes MBBS MRCGP DFFP 1985 London

‘I have been a GP since 1993 and have worked here at the Student Health Service for most of the time since in various roles. I have seen many changes over that time in the type of health problems that students present with, alongside an increase in the amount of stress and financial pressures they experience. My message is that University is meant to be fun and ‘the best years of your life’ (as well as hard work!)

I work part time and have another role teaching communication skills to medical students. I have a special interest in mental health and diabetes.’

Dr Gemma Murray 1997 Cambridge MA BChir, MRCGP, DRCOG, DSRH

‘I qualified as a GP in 2004 whilst serving in the British Army. I provided medical care to military personnel whilst away on operations and to their wives and families when back in UK. From this I developed an interest in healthcare for young adults, particularly contraception, sexual health and sports injuries. I joined the team at Students’ Health in 2010 where I provide coil fitting sessions alongside routine GP surgeries.’

Dr Sarah Owen 2000 MA MBBS MRCGP DRCOG DSRH

‘I undertook my medical training in Cambridge and then London, finally moving to Bristol to commence GP training in 2001. I have been working as a GP since 2004 and enjoy all aspects of health-care. I also get involved with teaching and ‘Out of Hour’ GP services.

Dr Vicky Stansfield MBBS, DRCOG

I joined the Student Health Service in 2016 and am thrilled to be part of the team here. Before coming to Bristol I worked in a practice in Oxfordshire for fourteen years so have a wide experience of general practice. I have also worked in Sexual Health.

Dr Jess Buchan

I trained at Sheffield University and did my GP training in Yorkshire. I moved to Bristol in 2007. I worked as a GP in community practice in Somerset and have also spent time as a GP in New Zealand so I have a wide experience of general practice, and understand what it is like to navigate a health care system in a different country. I joined the Student Health Service in 2016.
