Professor Ruth Levitas speaks at the Institute for the Study of Knowledge in Society (ISKS) at the University of Limerick (UL) on 12 October on 'Utopia as method', the subject of the Leverhulme Fellowship she will take up in May 2010, and of her forthcoming book.  For full details on her talk, please see the Bristol University News page.

Dr Michael Naughton made an appearance on the Sunday 23rd August episode of The Big Questions on BBC1 as an expert contributor to the debate "Is it wrong to allow witness anonymity?"  This programme is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.

Dr Therese O'Toole has been awarded 30 months of research project funding by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.  The project team, including Professor Tariq Modood MBE and Dr Nasar Meer, will address the novel responses of government to the role of religion in public life, by investigating the emerging significance of Muslim religious values, practices and engagement within contemporary governance. 

Professor Gregor McLennan has been appointed as Director of the University's Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS).  The purpose of the IAS is to foster interdisciplinary and interfaculty thinking at the highest level, to facilitate visiting professorships and fellowships, to nurture new ideas amongst academic staff and postgraduates, and to raise Bristol's profile in the discussion of the big ideas of our times.
