Our aims
The principal aim of the nursery is to provide a caring environment where high quality play and education are used to stimulate and encourage each child's intellectual, physical and emotional development. To this end we work within the Every Child Matters and Early Years foundation Stage frameworks.
Every Child Matters provides a framework to promote the well-being of children based on 5 themes:
The nursery works to fulfil these criteria in the following ways:
Being healthy
- Children are given the opportunity to experience regular daily physical activities. Children regularly spend time in the garden.
- The nursery provides a cooked lunch and nutritious snacks throughout the day. All dietary requirements are catered for.
- Drinking water is available to all children throughout the day.
- The children enjoy 'The big act' which is an exercise programme incorporating dance and information about staying healthy.
Staying safe
- All staff are aware of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- The nursery views security as a main priority. We have video intercoms to ensure that only known persons can gain entry into the building.
- We talk regularly to the children about the importance of keeping safe with the equipment and resources we use as well as how to play safely with friends.
- There is a safe walled garden for children for children to enjoy.
- E-safety is also important and we have added some links to useful websites for parents on our Photography, video and e-safety policy.
Enjoying and achieving
- We follow the early years foundation stage. We plan their activities based on the current interests of the children and embed their learning in play.
- Children have free access to all resources.
- Each child has their own online learning Journal with observations and photos. This allows each child's development to be tracked and plans made based on the individual.
- We offer the children encouragement and support to build their self-esteem and foster emotional stability.
Positive contribution
- Frequent group times enable the children to learn about social interaction and how to be polite, sharing songs stories and action rhymes together.
- We help children to understand and manage their feelings leading to developing self control and awareness of others.
- We conduct activities and talk with children about the importance of their community and diversity. We encourage the belief that difference is valuable and that all people should be treated with kindness and respect.
Economic well being
- Working with parents and other agencies we can lay the foundation for future success at school, further study and work, enabling children to achieve financial security as adults.
