Ross Bowen

Graduated with a MSci Mathematics with Statistics in 2016

Current role

Senior Data Architect / Statistician at the UK Civil Service

(Civil Service Fast Stream)

What was your career path after graduating?

I joined the Civil Service Fast Stream as a Statistician in September 2016, going to work at the Office of National Statistics in Newport, Wales. In September 2017, I moved to London to join the Valuation Office Agency and have been there since - in the future I hope to see a few more different government departments in London before heading back to Wales!

The Valuation Office Agency values properties to support taxation and benefits. As a data architect, I design systems to help our workers provide better valuations - at its core, I'm trying to figure out how we can make better use of our own data, and also use third party data sources to support valuation. I support a team of statisticians who use statistical models to try and provide valuations and prioritise work.
