Entry requirements for undergraduate courses
You can apply for undergraduate programmes through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) or the Common Application. Please use only one method of applying. If you are using UCAS to apply for other UK universities, please also make your University of Bristol application through UCAS and do not use the Common Application. The UCAS code name and number for this University is BRISL B78.
Applicants who have completed the Reifeprufung or Matura with good grades (usually 1 - sehr gut, or 2 - gut) will be considered for admission to our Bachelor degree programmes. Please see the following table for equivalences used by the University of Bristol:
|UK GCE Advanced Level grades||Austrian Reifepruefun subject grades PLUS||Certificate endorsement|
|A*AA||1,1,1,2||Mit ausgezeichnetem Erfolg bestanden|
|AAA||1,1,2,2||Mit ausgezeichnetem Erfolg bestanden|
|AAB||1,1,2,2||Mit gutem Erfolg bestanden|
|ABB||1,2,2,2||Mit gutem Erfolg bestanden|
For more information about applying to universities in the UK please read our guidance for European Union students applying for undergraduate (Bachelor) degree courses.
If your school is willing to provide predicted grades, these should be included in the designated field on the UCAS form. If your school is unable to provide predicted grades, this should be stated in the reference. We will then consider your application based on the information that you have provided. Please make sure your application includes all the qualifications you have achieved so far, and all those you still have to take before starting at university.
Please note that competition for places at Bristol is very strong, so the achievement of the qualifications listed above does not guarantee that an offer will be made. We aim to get you a response as quickly as possible to help you plan your studies.
Entry requirements for postgraduate programmes
You can apply online for all our postgraduate programmes.
The standard requirement for entry to a taught masters programme at Bristol is an undergraduate (Bachelor) degree that is equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class degree (also known as a 2:1).
Applicants who hold a (post-Bologna process) Austrian Bachelor degree which started after 1999 with good grades can be considered for entry to taught Masters programmes.
Applicants who hold a Diplom or a Magister (started in or before 1999 and with both the "erste" and "zweite Diplompruefungen" and successful submission of the "Diplomarbeit (thesis)" with very good grades can be considered for admission to research programmes.
