Hiatt Baker Hall is a vibrant, balanced community that provides its students with a supportive and stimulating environment. We aim to enable students to achieve their academic and personal potential, and to be involved in a wide range of social, cultural and sporting activities.

With some 445 students, Hiatt Baker Hall is the University’s largest Hall of Residence, and it aims to reflect the University's values, its diversity and its commitment to the highest intellectual and personal standards. It also aims to provide each of its residents with excellent service, and with accommodation and catering of high quality. It intends that all members of the Hall – students, staff and senior residents – work effectively together, and are given opportunities to develop their skills and abilities.  Formal dinners are held each term, and in addition students are invited each week to join the Warden, senior residents and academic guests at dinner or drinks.

The accommodation is in the form of single study/bedrooms, each with its own washbasin, telephone, and internet connection, and with shared bathroom facilities. There are two pantries on each floor of the accommodation blocks, fitted with small cookers, fridges and a microwave for the preparation of simple meals and snacks. All of the accommodation buildings are non-smoking, as are all public areas. The main building is the focus of Hall life. It contains the dining room, a common room, a friendly bar with a large screen and satellite TV, and a games room with snooker and pool tables and a gym. There is also a computer room, library, table tennis room, two music rehearsal rooms (plus the Hall’s grand piano), and a television room. There are three launderettes on site. The Hall is five minutes walk from the main University sports ground at Coombe Dingle, and also shares sports facilities such as squash, tennis and basketball courts on the Stoke Bishop site.
