Warden's introduction

Welcome to Hiatt Baker Hall’s website.  Hiatt Baker Hall, which is located on the Stoke Bishop campus, is one of the University’s catered Halls of Residence – indeed, its largest Hall.  On our web pages, you can find much practical information about the Hall, and get some sense of its character.  Our web pages are largely directed at our current student residents, but they will also be of interest to others, and in particular to prospective applicants.

A university education of course involves you in the serious study of an academic discipline, or disciplines.   Just as important as your studies are all the other aspects of the experience of being a university student.  The places you live, the people you meet, and the things you do during your undergraduate years have an immense influence over you.  You should embrace the opportunities to make new, and many, friends, to develop new interests, and to let the values of the University – values embedded in intellectual integrity, respect for truth and for diversity of view – change you.  Each of the University’s Halls of Residence aims to provide you with a physical and social environment in which all these things can be achieved.  Here in Hiatt Baker, you will meet very many people: people like yourself, people very different from yourself, and people who will become life-long friends.  With 445 student residents, Hiatt Baker offers diversity and opportunity, as does the University itself.  Our community is what you make it – do please join in wholeheartedly!
