Information for postgraduate students
All invited students should complete their graduation registration forms online, by the deadline of Monday 11 December 2017. You should complete the form whether you wish to attend your graduation ceremony or not and even if your degree has not yet been awarded.
Please note that whilst we realise many students will not have received their awards by the registration deadline date, we do ask that you complete the form regardless of this. If your degree is then awarded in time and you meet the eligibility criteria, your registration will be secured. If you do not register by Monday 11 December we cannot guarantee you a place at the ceremony.
If your degree is awarded in time for you to graduate at the February 2018 degree congregation and you have not registered to attend, your degree will automatically be conferred in absentia (i.e. formally awarded at a ceremony in your absence). You will then not be able to attend a future ceremony for the same award.
If you have not received an invitation email by Monday 27 November and you believe that you are due to graduate in February, please contact the Graduation Office.
If you have received an invitation email but know that you will not be eligible to graduate in February 2018, please contact the Graduation Office so that we can amend our records and put you forward to the next degree congregation. Please check Eligibility and read the information below before contacting us with this information.
If you register to attend the February 2018 degree congregation and your degree is then not awarded by the relevant deadline, you will automatically be put forward to the ceremonies in July 2018. If this is the case we will send you an email to confirm the situation, shortly before the February ceremonies.
Postgraduate Taught students: In order to graduate at the July degree congregation, your degree must be awarded at a Faculty Exam Board by Friday 19 January 2018. Exam board dates for taught postgraduate students can be provided by your faculty.
Postgraduate Research students: Your examiner's report and recommendation has to be considered at a Research Degrees Examinations Board. Details of the dates of these examinations boards and their respective deadlines for receipt of examiners' reports are available here for research degrees.
Your degree must be awarded at an examinations board by Friday 19 January 2018 for you to graduate at the February 2018 degree congregation.
Minor errors and hardbound copy of thesis (Research students only)
Please note that if your degree is awarded at an examinations board by the relevant deadline subject to the correction of minor errors, you will still be eligible to graduate at the February 2018 degree congregation. However, your degree certificate will only be issued when the Postgraduate Examinations Office has received written confirmation that the corrections have been made.
Your degree certificate will only be issued once the hardbound copy of your thesis has been submitted to the Postgraduate Examinations Office, but again non-submission of your hardbound copy thesis by the relevant deadline will not affect your eligibility to graduate.
Your degree award will be posted on Student Info, or Past Student Info (for former students) and you will be sent an email confirming that your award is available. Research students will also be sent a letter confirming their degree. This will be sent to your registered home address.
If your degree is not awarded in time to graduate at the February 2018 degree congregation, or if you register to attend your ceremony and your degree is then not awarded in time, you will automatically be put forward to the ceremonies in July 2018. If this is the case we will send you an email to confirm the situation, shortly before the February ceremonies.
