Accommodation Bursary

13 September 2018

Further information for students expecting to receive the Accommodation Bursary in 2018/19 academic year.

The University of Bristol's Accommodation Bursary offers a discount for first-year students in University-administered halls of residence. There is no application form because the University awards the discount to students who meet the eligibility criteria, based upon data that it receives from UCAS and the Student Loans Company.

Students who feel they meet the criteria listed on the Accommodation Bursary webpage should note the following sequence of events:

  1. The Accommodation Office will allocate rooms to students.
  2. The Income Office will generate the invoices for accommodation during September, which are visible to students via the MyBristol portal.
  3. The Student Funding Office will identify students who are eligible for the Accommodation Bursary.
  4. A credit note will appear in students' financial statements, which will reduce the amount owed for accommodation.
  5. The Student Funding Office will contact affected students to inform them that they have been awarded an Accommodation Bursary.
  6. Students who wish to pay their accommodation by instalments should select this option in their financial statement.

We anticipate that the above process will be completed before 24 October 2018 when the first payment is due.

Is there anything that students need to do?

Yes, students should ensure that they have provided consent to share information to their regional funding provider (Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, Student Finance NI or SAAS). Both students and their parents/guardians need to do this to ensure that the university receives the relevant household income data.

Students who do not provide the appropriate consent may experience delays in receiving the Accommodation Bursary and other funding from the university.
