Professional and Career Development Loan (PCDL)

On 7 June 2018, the Government announced that the Postgraduate Career Development Loans scheme is closing.

Professional and Career Development Loans will close to new borrowers on 24 March 2019. The final date for learners to submit applications to The Co-operative Bank will be 25 January 2019.

Existing borrowers will not be affected. They will continue to receive a full service from the bank during study and repayment.

More details will be available nearer the closure date. All updates will be issued via GOV.UK.

A Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial bank loan that you can use to help pay for work-related learning.

University of Bristol is a Professional and Career Development Loans registered Learning Provider, registration number 10615.

If you decide to fund your studies with a PCDL, the application will need to be authorised by the University of Bristol as the Learning Provider.

Please note: the Student Funding Office authorise all PCDL applications; please do not approach your school or faculty. The signing of the second form (i.e the one that confirms your start date and course registration at the University of Bristol) will not be done until you are fully registered on your programme of study.

To have a PCDL form authorised, please drop-in to the Student Funding Office, Ground Floor, Senate House, between 9am - 4pm Monday - Friday. The office is closed between 11am and 11.45am on Wednesdays.
