School visit days

Congratulations if you have received an offer to study at Bristol!

Attending a visit day will help you decide whether Bristol is the right university for you.  If you have come through a ‘standard’ educational route (recent A levels, IB or equivalent qualifications), you will have been invited to a visit day after being made an offer.  If you have been out of the education system for a period of time, are completing an Access to Science course, Open University foundation units or similar, you may have been invited to a pre-offer visit and interview day. The programmes for both days are, or will be, available as linked pdfs in the column to the right.

What to expect when you visit the School of Earth Sciences

You might have been to one of our Open Days where you explored the University precinct and saw some subject talks and displays which helped you decide which course to apply for at Bristol.  Now that you have been invited back, your visit day is designed to give you more time to ask any questions you may have about your course, look around the facilities and find out more about what it is like to study here.

The day should give you a really strong sense of what it will be like to be part of our science community at the University of Bristol. On the day you will:

  • find out more about your course

  • take a tour of the buildings and facilities where you will study

  • meet staff and current students and have plenty of opportunities to ask lots of questions

  • get a taste for the way we teach and learn through sample lectures and other interactive activities.

The morning programme is organised centrally by the University and includes information about accommodation, student finance and other support services.  Campus tours are also available.  Parents or carers are welcome to join in with the morning activities.  The afternoon programme is specifically for applicants and is about the School of Earth Sciences and the course you have applied for.  A separate afternoon programme organised by the University is available for parents/carers and places may be booked on the day.

Dates

Visit days will be held between January and March 2018.  Pre-offer visit days are usually in March so that we can meet you when you are as far as possible into your current study and therefore able to perform to the highest standard possible. Successful applicants are invited to a specific visit day relevant to the course applied for but alternative dates will be offered if you are unable to attend.

The programme for visit days will be available to download here in due course.

Parents and carers

Parents or carers are welcome to join you on your visit day and there is an afternoon session that they can take part in. You can find out more information about this in the downloadable programme.

I enjoyed meeting the staff and students. Everyone was very friendly and talking to them gave me a much better understanding of what is involved in the course, especially the field trips. I had lots of opportunity to ask questions throughout the day.
