How to apply

Programme applications

Please note that we are not currently accepting further applications for the CoSEM CDT programme.

We respect and value the diversity of our cohort; our students derive immense benefit from being part of an international community with the opportunity to expand their cultural and academic horizons every day.

To apply complete an online application; selecting 'Advanced Composites (PhD)' on the Start your application page.

The next available start date is 18 September 2023.

The deadline for applications is displayed on the homepage

Our admissions statement provides a comprehensive list of all the documentation you will need to provide and the selection process.

Please note that, unless you are applying for a separately advertised industry sponsored project you do not need to write your own research statement (as you will select your project after joining the CDT). Instead, use the text below:

‘The research that will be undertaken in the CDT will broadly fit within the themes that we have within the Bristol Composites Institute: Materials, Manufacturing and Structures. We have around 30 academic staff with a variety of interests, but focussed on composite materials covering different sectors such as aircraft and transport, wind energy, construction and the built environment, health, and cross-cutting themes such as sustainability. Research can take place across different themes, and we offer supervision from different academic staff to suit the projects’ needs.’

Similarly, when asked to name your supervisors, simply list the three CDT Directors - Prof. Steve Eichhorn, Prof. Ian Hamerton and Prof. Alberto Pirrera. We will swap you over to your permanent supervisors when you start your chosen PhDs.
