Arrival arrangements

Making your final plans

Once your e-acceptance of accommodation has been received by Badock Hall, room allocation will commence.    Your arrival time will be governed by the location of your room.  The Hall will not issue your full room details to any caller.

Early arrival

If you need to arrive before 30th September, you must give Hall prior notice with date and time of arrival.

As there is no food provided in Hall for resident students before Sunday evening so we strongly recommend planning for a Sunday 1st October arrival if practical, as the Hall is very quiet prior to that.

Field trips

If you have a field trip before the term starts you are welcome to move in your belongings prior to departure at no additional charge but this cannot take place unless you have previously submitted your personal information form and made an early arrival booking.

Arrival times for Sunday 30th September 2012

The Hall will advise you of the area in Hall you should expect to occupy but NOT your room number - on rare occasions this may be subject to alteration.   Please organise your journey to fit in with these time slots.  This helps smooth the stresses of the first day in Hall and  limits potential log jams in the very restricted parking areas.

Please note that there may be slight variations to the above list, dependent on the area of Hall you will occupy.  Please follow the instructions in the email to be issued to you between 20th and 25th September.  Please bring a copy of this email with you.

If you have received confirmation of a parking permit allocation and wish to bring your vehicle on Fresher Sunday, the car will need to be parked on a side road away from Stoke Park Road until 16:00 hrs when all visitors will leave Hall.  Covered cycle space allocations will also be confirmed one week prior to arrival, cycle owners should claim their store keys before off-loading the bike.

We regret that there is no visitor accommodation available in Hall during Fresher Week. Should your parents wish to stay in Bristol there are good hotels and B&B accommodation – but please book early as there is heavy demand.

Students may not entertain visitors in their rooms until after Sunday 7th October 2012.  The first week in Hall is a time to get to know new friends.

Traffic around Stoke Bishop is very heavy on arrival day, do allow at least 30 minutes in your journey plan to compensate for this.  Please do not use SatNav on the final mile as you approach Hall - our road directions are good and will ensure you the best approach.

What you need to do on arrival

We will endeavour to make your arrival as smooth as possible, please bear with us should there be a need to wait.  Porters will direct you to the appropriate car park and advise your departure time.  Do have a copy of your Badock arrival email to hand, this confirms which parking area you have been allocated, it also ensures you are directed to the correct reception point.

Having parked, you need to go at once to collect and sign for your keys. Next you will be escorted to your room.

If you have friends or relations with you, whilst you collect your keys your visitors can start to offload your vehicle.  This needs to be done as quickly as you can, to enable the vehicle to vacate the car park within 45 minutes, thereby freeing space for later arrivals.

Cars cannot be left in Hall car parks during Fresher Sunday.  We allow 45 minutes for offload so you do need to be organised.

Students taking rooms in Units 1 - 5 and MB report to Badock Main Building Library (main car park)

Students taking rooms in Units 6 - 10 and OLA report to Badock Old Library Conference Centre (top car park).

In your room are important information pages you need to read and digest.  These are found in the Badock Bible file on your bookshelf.

All family and visitors will be asked to leave Hall by 16:00 hrs, so that students have a chance to get to the unit lectures on time.

Hall Sports Teams -  initial sign on is in the Dining Hall from 1930 - 2000 hrs Sunday evening.

Fresher week

Your first week in Bristol will be taken up with getting to know your fellow residents, registering for your courses and settling into your accommodation.

For the evenings a programme of events will be set up for Badock residents by the JCR Committee.  These events are organised by students for students.  There is a very good mix of entertainment on offer.   We strongly recommend you select your nights out carefully from the venues on offer, pace yourself over the week and take time to get to know Badock Hall and Bristol without ending up overtired and out of sorts.

Monday morning - mandatory lectures

Breakfast on the first Monday morning only is served from 07:15 hrs until 08:15 hrs.  Students wishing to have breakfast that morning will need to be up and in the Dining Hall by 08:00 hrs.  No breakfast that morning will be served after 08:15hrs.

All resident students are required to attend Hall introductory lectures in the Dining Hall starting at 08:35hrs prompt on Monday 1st October.  The compulsory business will be concluded by 12:00 noon.  Thereafter the daily programme is as per the schedules issued to new students by their individual departments and faculties.

The Hall Office, located in the Main Building Reception is open from 0800 hrs each weekday morning, until 1630 hrs - see the staff there for advice and report problems.  Do not leave issues or queries unanswered, the staff are here to help you settle in.  You can contact reception by:
