JCR information

The purposes of the JCR

The JCR Committee organises all student activity in Hall and decides how best to apportion expenses from the JCR subscriptions to the benefit of all residents.  In addition the JCR committee members all support the Ball Committee in preparations for the Annual Ball.

Roles

Each Committee Member has a specific role to cover

• President - ensures the team runs smoothly and is main liaison with Warden and Hall Management
• Vice President - in overall charge of Ball organisation
• Treasurer - keeps the finances in check and maintains a proper accounting system
• Secretary - covers all records of meetings and communications
• Ents Reps - usually two - make Badock ents the envy of all other halls
• Sports Rep - organises all league entries, trials and selection, delegates to team captains
• Environmental Rep  - serves on the HEET Committee and covers environmental issues
• Charity - RAG entry, charity fundraising - top Hall in 2008 and 2011 for raising funds
• Publicity - uses artistic skills to produce all hard copy advertising for JCR events
• Arts in Hall - drama, music and photography activities are driven by groups of interested students with the guidance of an SCR member.

Elections

• JCR Committee is elected from resident students, this means that 1st Year students run their own year in Hall.  Those wishing to stand for election collect a campaign pack from the Hall Office in early October. 

• Each manifesto and advertising has to be lodged with the Warden by mid-October
• There is a weekend to run election campaigns
• Hustings are held in the Bar on the Tuesday prior to election night
• Elections take place on the third Wednesday in the Autumn Term
• The first meeting of the new JCR committee is the last Monday in October

Fresher week ents calendar

Each night there is a chill room in Hall as an alternative for those of you wishing to socialise,  but in a less noisy venue than the Bar.

Many Fresher Week entertainments and introductions are organised in and around the University - Bristol has a vast range of social, cultural and sporting opportunities to explore and enjoy.
