Badock caterers are happy to support all dietary needs, anyone requiring a specific diet for religious or medical reasons may discuss this with the Student Support Administrator, who will consult the Catering Supervisor in confidence; this will ensure that prior to arrival day a suitable menu alternative will be in place. The variety and standard of the food offered to student residents at Badock Hall is very good indeed, with menus created to reflect the ever-changing preferences of the many customers.
Each weekday from 07:30 - 09:00 hrs there is a substantial continental breakfast available with unlimited cereals, toast and beverages. For those who prefer a cooked option, the famous Big Badock Breakfast provides a superb start to the day with a selection of hot items to choose from. Guest meal charge for weekday full breakfast is £3.75 or £3.00 for continental breakfast.
Evening meals are served each weekday from 17:30 - 1900 hrs. The guest charge for an evening meal is £7.00.
The evening menus offer meat and vegetarian options, as well as salad bar - something for everyone. Daily meals are self service from the Dining Hall servery. Where late lectures, rehearsals or training may mean residents could miss their evening meal, a late meal can be ordered in advance - but this must be collected by 19:30 hrs; alternatively a packed meal booked the day before can be collected on the morning it is needed.
Each Saturday during term time there is only a brunch served between 11:00 - 13:00 hrs. Guest charge for Brunch is £5.75
Sundays in term time the catering provision is a continental breakfast between 09:30 - 10:00 hrs, then full Sunday Lunch between 12:30 - 13:30 hrs. Guest charge for Sunday Lunch is £6.00.
The highlights of each term are Formal Dinners, for which residents may collect a ticket from the Hall Office. Limited places are available so these are issued on a first-come-first-served basis. On these occasions all diners are seated and enjoy silver service. Guests cannot be catered for at Formal Dinners.
The formal dinner atmosphere provides an opportunity for all students to experience this type of special occasion. By offering at least three such occasions each year, every student has the opportunity to take part. No formal occasions are identical, in some years the Summer Formal incorporates the Badock Oscars night. Invitations are issued to members of the University academic and senior administrative staff to join the occasion; all diners are expected to wear smart attire - dinner suits with black tie or lounge suits are preferred.
There is also the Badock theme night during the Autumn term when students and staff dress up; all enjoy a specially created menu to suit the chosen theme. The most popular theme has been 'Harry Potter' when the Dining Hall transforms into a Bristol version of Hogworts ..... (Bogworts).
The 'Three-Headed Dog' - left - was just one of the amazing costumes displayed at this very popular event in 2010. For other photos of Bogworts visit our picture gallery. The Catering Manager has several other themes up her sleeve so be prepared to dress up and join in!
