The Badock Ball

BADOCK BALL

The Badock Ball at the end of the Spring Term is the highlight of the hall year.  Under the leadership of the JCR Vice President planning for the event starts early in the Autumn Term - priority ents tickets are sold to fresher Badock Students, for a limited time, via PayPal even before arrival at Bristol.  This ensures entry to the event with the opportunity to upgrade later in the year.  Every aspect of the Ball is planned and executed by the students themselves, with guidance from the SCR and the hall staff.

Each Badock Ball has a theme (2011 Alice in Wonderland).  Once this is decided there is marketing to organise, budgets to set, funding to arrange, bands to book, entertainments to create and decorations to develop.  The larger the organisation team, the easier the task becomes for all concerned. Residents are all encouraged to join the Ball team.

The committee needs organisers, artists, financiers, marketing gurus - all must be good team players and willing to see the project through.

In 2011 a £40 all-inclusive ticket offered revelers a Champagne Reception plus a three course meal to remember, including wines. 

This was followed by entertainments from 9pm and through to 3am with bands and DJs playing in both the Bar and Dining Hall areas, besides a Cocktail bar, Fire Show, Face Painting, mass lantern ascent, photographer and magician. 

For those finding a £40 ticket beyond their means, an entertainment only ticket cost £20 in 2011, giving five hours of fun and music from 9pm to 3am.

The menu for the Ball Dinner is discussed well in advance with the Catering Department; often this is matched to the theme of the event, so that early publicity can state what diners will get for their money.

The Badock Ball 2011 was a very enjoyable night and one of the most successful events run in recent years.  Decorations were exceptional and the evening's entertainments complemented a fabulous meal.

So .... if you enjoy organising events the Badock Ball is for you!  Look out for the preliminary meetings early in the Autumn Term and join the team to make this very special night the best ever, for your year in Hall.
