Supporting educational leaders
As part of a Centre for International Veterinary Medical Education (CIVME)-funded project, Sheena Warman and colleagues from around the globe created a framework to support the development of curriculum leaders in veterinary education. The framework provides guidance to school leadership teams and aspiring leaders across five domains:
- Understanding individual motivations for curriculum leadership
- Focussing on leadership training to navigate challenges
- Accessing opportunities for learning educational theory
- Highlighting the importance of role models, mentoring and networking
- Valuing and supporting educational development at an institutional level
The framework was developed from the findings from an international study exploring "What makes a curriculum leader in veterinary education?" Research partners included Sheena Warman and Sarah Kelly (University of Bristol); Elizabeth Armitage-Chan (Royal Veterinary College); Katy Cobb (University of Nottingham); Heidi Janicke (St George's University); Emma Read (The Ohio State University); Martin Cake and Melinda Bell (Murdoch University). You can read more about the research here:

The framework has potential for use across different academic disciplines, and is currently being piloted in different disciplines in the University of Bristol as part of an "Education Development Culture" project.
