Automatic Captions Quality Review We are working on a project to evaluate the accuracy of closed captions on recorded video, and establish a UoB quality assurance standard. We are working with UoB researchers, student digital champions, student caption editors and industry stakeholders. University- wide October 2024
Blackboard Ultra Base Navigation On July 5, we’re updating Blackboard to use the new Ultra Base Navigation. This update will give Blackboard a modern look and feel and provide easier access to important information. Ultra Base Navigation has a modern, intuitive navigation menu that sits outside of courses and is always available. Courses will not change - they will look and operate exactly as they do now. Closed Captions Service (RePlay) From January 2022, all Re/Play content is automatically captioned using built in Automatic Speech Recognition software. There is a project to assess the roll out, and evaluate the workflows involved with editing captioned materials. University-wide October 2024
Digital Experience Insights Survey We regularly run JISC surveys to assess the quality of our digital provision and identify areas for improvement. University-wide Annual Project
Digital Learning Environment Review We are consulting with students, staff and partners to ensure we use the right digital tools in the right way to deliver an excellent student experience, and make improvements where needed. University-wide Summer 2023
Digitally Ready A student introduction to the Bristol virtual learning environment, to equip new students with the digital tools and competencies needed to confidently start their studies at Bristol. University-wide Ongoing
Digitally Ready Annual review Each year we undertake a project to review and update the Digitally Ready induction course, in collaboration with our student digital champions and Bristol SU. Digitally Ready aims to equip new students with the digital tools and competencies needed to confidently start their studies at Bristol. University-wide Annual Project
Digitally Ready for Admin Staff A blended online course to equip administrative staff with guidance and specific context for administering assessments and other key processes online. The first part of the course focusing on assessments ran in Feb and March and is available as a self-study course for new administrators on request. The second part on Digital Education Systems Overview as well as Engagement is expected to be delivered by Summer 2021 and will ran as a course in September 21. University-wide Ongoing
Digital skills and capabilities The DEO are committed to improving the understanding and importance of digital skills and capabilities. Aligning ourselves with the Jisc Digital Capability framework, over the next year we will be aiming to develop this understanding for both staff and students, so that both can feel confident in their digital skills and recognise the importance of their use throughout their time at university and in the development of their careers. FeedbackFruits pilot Overall, the pilot’s goal is to validate the pedagogical value of the Peer Review and Group Member evaluation Tools, by aligning with the institution’s priorities. We aim to achieve three different categories of objectives: pedagogical value, efficient implementation, and technological stability. We will measure the success of the pilot project via surveys and data from the tool. Selected schools July 2025
Microsoft Teams for teaching The Digital Education Office is working with IT Services to scope and implement a simple way for Microsoft Teams to be used in programmes and units University-wide Summer 2021
Online assessment platform requirements (including remote proctoring and invigilation) A short requirements-gathering exercise to assess what faculty requirements for remote, high stakes assessment. University-wide Ongoing
Student Digital Champions Student digital champions from across all faculties in the university are reaching out to students, channelling the student voice straight to the DEO. Their focus is on student engagement, motivation and feelings of community when learning online. University-wide Ongoing
Transition to new LTI integration for Re/Play in Blackboard From the end of 2022, the current method of integrating Re/Play with Blackboard – the ‘building block’ will no longer be supported by Blackboard. We are working with IT services to move to a more robust LTI integration, which will also improve performance of the Re/Play system. University-wide September 2022
