Energy and water management
How we’re reducing our energy and water consumption, and what you can do to help.
We are working to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero. Where possible, we're switching to renewable energy sources, optimising our use of space, utilising Building Energy Management systems and minimising our water consumption.
To find out more about our plans to reduce energy and water consumption, refer to the Energy Supply, Water and Waste workstream of the University Climate Action Plan.
How can I help reduce energy and water use?
- Look out for and act on inefficiencies such as leaking taps or draughts. You can report issues to the Campus Division Maintenance Helpdesk.
- Turn off equipment when it's not needed; if you're unsure, raise it to the facility manager.
- During cooler months, if your space is too warm, report it to the facility manager instead of opening windows. Opening the widows while the heating is on may cause the system to provide more heat to the space.
- During the summer opening windows in the mornings and evenings, and closing them during the hottest points in the day, can help avoid overheating.
- Where temperatures are uncomfortable, and fall outside the space temperature policy, staff should notify the local facilities manager.
