Staff travel survey

The survey shows an overall trend of staff increasingly using methods like walking, bus and cycling to commute to the university, and in 2023 and large increase of working from home.

Changes to capturing data over time

The complete data sets before and after 2007 are not wholly comparable, because of methodological changes to the travel survey and analysis. Changes include updated travel options and weighting of data to better represent commuting patterns of part-time staff. However the overall trends for the main travel modes are robust.

During the pandemic, the University did not conduct a comprehensive staff travel survey, however it did continue to participate in the Travelwest Travel to Work survey

Student travel survey

The survey shows an overall trend of students increasingly using methods like bus and train to commute to the university, and in 2023 and a decrease in working from home.
