LNAT for law courses
What is the LNAT?
The Law National Aptitude Test (LNAT) helps students understand if law is the right career path for them and helps universities to check that applicants will be suitable for the course.
All undergraduate applicants for law are required to take the LNAT test, which can be taken at test centres in the UK and worldwide.
LNAT registration
You can register to take the LNAT on the LNAT website.
The University’s deadline for all applicants to complete the LNAT for the 2025 application cycle is 29 January 2025.
We recommend that you take the LNAT at the earliest date possible to ensure that we receive your results by the deadline. Any tests taken after 29 January 2025 will be disregarded and applications will be made unsuccessful.
We can only consider applicants who complete the LNAT in the current admissions cycle. If you completed the LNAT during the last UCAS cycle, we will not be able to use those scores and you will need to retake the test.
If your LNAT account details do not match those on your UCAS application, your application may be delayed. Please ensure your details match exactly.
Giving us access to your LNAT results
We download your scores and essays directly from LNAT.
We will only be able to access your results if the following information exactly matches the information you provided on your UCAS application:
- UCAS personal ID
- Surname
- Date of birth
- You have ticked University of Bristol when asked which universities you are applying for.
Please log in to your LNAT account at Pearson VUE to check carefully that all your details are correct. You can update your details at any time, before and after taking the test.
If any of these details do not match those on your UCAS application, we will not be able to download your results. This could cause a delay in processing your application.

Processing your LNAT results

This means that we do not instantly receive your results into our system once you have followed the above instructions, so please allow some time before contacting us to check if we have received your results.
Frequently asked questions
How can I notify you of extenuating circumstances relating to my LNAT?
If you have any extenuating circumstances that may affect your performance in the LNAT, please inform the relevant test centre, who will then notify us. We are not able to consider extenuating circumstances relating to additional tests submitted directly to us by an applicant, nominated contact or school.
I was ill on the day of my test and my performance was impacted, what can I do?
Applicants whose performance was significantly impacted on the day of their test can contact LNAT directly to discuss the possibility of a resit. We are unable to take extenuating circumstances into account ourselves but will accept resits if these are authorised by LNAT.
I can’t sit the LNAT by the deadline – will I be made unsuccessful?
We may grant extensions to our LNAT deadline in exceptional circumstances. If you need to request an extension, please contact us at admissions-law@bristol.ac.uk.
My test centre is closed due to COVID/there is no test centre in my country, how can I take the LNAT?
If there is no test centre available in your country (for example, due to COVID closures), please contact us at admissions-law@bristol.ac.uk and we will do our best to help you.
