BSc Economics and Econometrics with Study Abroad (L142)
2027 entry | view 2026 entry
Course summary
On this degree, you'll develop analytical and quantitative skills applicable to a wide range of careers in economics and beyond.
We teach economics in a technically rigorous way, using mathematical models to formalise key concepts. You will also develop a deep knowledge of econometrics: the statistical methods economists use to analyse data, estimate economic relationships and test theories.
Econometrics is a vital part of modern economics. Because we cannot run controlled experiments on entire economies, econometric methods allow us to isolate causal effects and draw reliable conclusions from empirical observations.
You will build a strong foundation in econometrics, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, data analysis, and micro and macroeconomics. Optional units enable you to tailor the degree to your career ambitions, with choices in areas such as data science, behavioural economics, accounting, auditing, finance, international business and more.
You will also have the opportunity to complete an economics dissertation, allowing you to explore a question that matters to you and to demonstrate your research, analytical and communication skills.
You'll benefit from teaching that's informed by the latest developments in economics and our cutting-edge research; ranked in the top ten for economics and econometrics amongst UK universities (THE analysis of REF 2021). We are also home to the Economics Network, which improves the teaching and learning of economics in universities throughout the UK and Europe.
You'll also explore economics in a non-UK context during a year studying abroad, learning in English but at an international university in one of numerous global destinations available. Visit Centre For Study Abroad to find out more.
By graduation, you'll be well-prepared for a successful career. On average, Bristol economics students earn 10% more than other UK economics graduates 15 months after graduation, typically enjoying salaries between £31,000 and £44,000 in that year (discoveruni.gov.uk, graduates from 2022-23).
Recent BSc Economics and Econometrics graduates have gone on to work in roles such as Investment Analyst, Business Consultant, Data Analyst, and Infrastructure, Strategy and Operations Associate. They work at globally renowned organisations including KPMG, Siemens, and Aon.
