Electromechanical Power Conversion

We are addressing challenges of Low Carbon. Driven by environmental concerns, established mechanical based technologies are being replaced and enhanced by energy efficient, electrically driven alternatives. Solutions are needed for transportation, industry automation and renewable energy capture. The significantly improved performance, efficiency and reliability offered through smart electrodynamic control of force and power transfer will benefit applications across all engineering sectors and scale.

  • High Performance Traction Drive Motors
    Research into compact, energy efficiency electrical machine formats and working with our industry partners delivering full scale test validation prototypes of these concepts.
  • Lightweight Electric Propulsion
    Addressing the challenges of light weighting electrical machines through multi-discipline research.
  • Aircraft Electrical Systems
    Working on a range of solutions to improve the efficiency and robustness of aircraft generation technologies
  • Electrodynamic Actuation Technologies
    Electrodynamic actuator technology encompasses all elements of the system including the electro-mechanical actuator, power electronic driving circuitry and control strategies.
  • Renewable Power Generation
    High efficient renewable energy power conversion technologies and the design of affordable, locally manufactured and maintainable energy capture for emerging communities.
