CSJ International Visiting Scholar Fund

The Centre for Childhoods and Social Justice (CSJ) invites applications for its International Visiting Scholarship scheme. The scheme supports Centre members to develop international collaborations by supporting an overseas collaborator to visit Bristol for a short, focused period of time.

Funding

· Awards will typically be up to £2,000

· Requests up to £3,000 may be considered in exceptional circumstances

· We expect to fund around two visiting scholarships in any given round

· The scholarship fund can be combined with other sources of funding to support longer or more extensive visits

Eligible Costs

The scholarship supports direct costs of the visit, including:

· Travel costs

· Accommodation

· Subsistence

The scheme does not cover:

· Salary replacement

· Honoraria or speaker fees

· Attendance at external events

Purpose and Expectations

Scholarships are intended to support active research collaboration. In particular, successful recipients of the fund will be expected to:

· Speak at a CSJ badged event: a public lecture, being part of a panel event, or leading a closed research workshop

· Commit to producing a collaborative output with the Bristol colleague (e.g. a paper, policy briefing, grant application (note completion of the proposed work is not expected by the end of the visit, but a commitment to finalising the work through the partnership - must be undertaken)

· All outputs must explicitly

a) present the logo of the Centre where appropriate and

b) include an acknowledgement of the CSJ funding and introductions.

Eligibility

· Applications to the fund must be led by CSJ members within the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences at the University of Bristol

· The proposed collaborator must be based at a non-UK institution

· Only one application per CSJ member, per round

Selection Criteria - Applications will be assessed on:

· The quality and feasibility of the proposed collaboration

· The alignment of the application to CSJ themes

· The benefit to CSJ’s research community

· The clarity of planned outputs

· New collaborations with institutions 

· Value for money

Timing

· Application deadline: 15 September 2026

· Visits must take place, and funds be spent, no later than mid-July 2027
