The Experts in Residence programme offers an opportunity for Bristol researchers to access industry-leading advice from trusted experts on translating, developing, patenting or spinning out a research project. We have relationships with specialists in the categories of Digital Health, Gene and Cell Therapy, Small Molecule and Medical Devices. By developing long-term relationships with industry experts, we have created a pool of resource that is available to supply short- and long-term collaborative support and advice on your translational project.

Richard Seabrook
Director, 360Biomedical
Richard Seabrook has been appointed to the University of Bristol under the Royal Society 2021 Entrepreneur-in-Residence scheme. He will work with both the Faculties of Health and Life Sciences to stimulate new business ventures based on the considerable research investments in bioinformatic, chemoinformatic and advanced therapy technologies. -
Sasha Siegel
Dr Sasha Siegel is a big-data scientist and leader with over a decade of globally recognised experience in infectious disease genomics, AI/ML modelling, epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, drug discovery, and operation research. Dr Sasha Siegel worked for many years at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, leading the development of scaled genomic surveillance tools, pipelines and operations in low-and-middle-income countries, including for COVID-19 and malaria surveillance throughout the pandemic.The University of Bristol has a number of emerging digital health assets that utilise significant health data resources and infrastructure, and have significant commercial potential. In Sasha’s role as Expert in Residence, she works with the Translational Research Hub to objectively identify and assess research projects with high potential for translational impact, and advises researchers on their digital translational projects, providing expert advice on project development and funding opportunities.

Taj Mattu
Dr Taj Mattu will assess and identify the support required for opportunities in diagnostics, devices, Medtech and related areas, deliver development and funding roadmaps, and identify suitable mentors to help drive opportunities up the technology readiness level while aligning with industry requirements. Taj brings two decades of expertise in licensing, intellectual property, and academic research translation, ranging from renewable energy to vaccines to diagnostic reagents and active ingredient formulations both in therapeutics and agrochemicals. He is also a founder of Nidor Diagnostics, an academic spin-out involving the Universities of Bristol, Liverpool, UWE and the Wellcome Trust.
