Researchfish
What is Researchfish?
Researchfish is a web-based outcomes and impact-tracking platform developed by Elsevier and Interfolio. It is used by UK Research Councils (e.g. UKRI), the NIHR, and charitable funders (like BHF, CRUK, Wellcome Trust) to collect data on research outputs, outcomes, and impacts from funded projects to report to, and engage with, both the Government and the public.
Researchfish is open year-round for data entry, but funders mandate a specific annual submission period when PIs must formally submit their data (including a “nil return” if no outcomes occurred). This normally takes place during February and March.
It is mandatory for PIs to make an annual return on Researchfish for the duration of the award—and often for a few years after. Sanctions for non-compliance may include:
- Withholding grant payments
- Disqualification from applying for future funding

Get an ORCID iD
Getting an ORCID iD takes less than two minutes. We recommend creating one from within Pure or (if you already have one) adding it to Pure. This will help the exchange of research information between Pure and other systems including Researchfish. All ORCID iDs in Pure will appear on Bristol Research Portal, on researcher profiles and publication pages.
Going further: if you have a Researchfish account, you can connect ORCID to Researchfish for a two-way exchange of publication data. You will be prompted to connect your ORCID account when you first log into Researchfish.
