Pilot study to determine dosage of nicotine buccal (mouth) spray and qualification of a non-matched placebo

Experiment details:

This study explores the side effects experienced after using two different doses of nicotine mouth spray.

You will be required to complete two sessions, each lasting approximately 30 minutes. During each session, we will administer nicotine or placebo to the inside of your cheek via a mint-flavoured spray. Once the spray has been absorbed, you will complete some questionnaires.

On-the-day screening will take place prior to completion of the study to confirm your eligibility.

You will be reimbursed £10 for your time and expenses.

Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:

If your answer to each of the following statements is yes, you are eligible to take part:

  • I am aged between 18 and 50 years;
  • Non-dependent smoker (defined as smoking at least 5 cigarettes per month, but not every day).
  • I have good physiological and psychiatric health;
  • English is my first language, or I have an equivalent level of fluency;
  • I am in good physical and psychiatric health
  • I am able to attend two sessions, approximately one week apart.
