Participatory Research Methods for Inclusive Poverty Research
Thanks to all who joined the BPI and Brigstow Institute for this informative event which discussed Participatory Research Methods for Inclusive Poverty Research. The event was very well attended which showed the desire from UoB researchers to engagement with this topic! The afternoon took us through three insightful presentations from Sara Davies, Helen Manchester and Camilla Morelli who explained their methods for co-produced research, citing previous projects they have conducted.
The discussion that followed the presentations delved into: the ethics of co-created research and navigating vulnerable communities; the essence of good participatory research as being over the long term, non-extractive and empowering; the changing landscape of research over the years which now leans towards effective, ethical, inclusive approaches; and emphasising the relational and values aspects of co-production where outputs suit the community, not just the research endeavour.
