Postdocs and Research Fellowships

This page details postdoctoral and fellowship opportunities with the Astrophysics Group at Bristol. The Group actively encourages applications for research fellowships to be hosted by us at Bristol. We have expertise in the Group and extensive support from the University to help you prepare your applications.

If you are interested in us supporting your fellowship application, please contact the fellowship coordinator Dr Hannah Wakeford or Astrophysics Theme Lead Professor Zoe Leinhardt with your details and area of interest. There may be internal selection processes for fellowships, these will be detailed below throughout the year. Please do contact us to express your interest in advance of any fellowship or internal deadlines so we can direct you to the right information as early as possible.

Royal Society University Research Fellowships

Fellowship Call Funding call expected: Opens July, Closes September

INTERNAL Process
  1. Email a member of staff in Astrophysics to discuss fellowship opportunities
  2. Email the school research director (s.hayden@bristol.ac.uk) to say you want to apply (by 16 May)
  3. Submit a 2 page outline proposal and 2 page CV to phys-eam@bristol.ac.uk by 27 May 23:59
  4. Candidates with school support will be informed in the week commencing 8 June

STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowships

Fellowship Call Scheme opens: 3 June. External deadline: 30 September.

INTERNAL Process
  1. Email a member of staff in Astrophysics to discuss fellowship opportunities
  2. Email the Astrophysics theme lead (zoe.leinhardt@bristol.ac.uk) to say you want to apply (by 15 June) to access the internal application template
  3. Submit a template outline proposal and CV to phys-eam@bristol.ac.uk by 30 June 23:59

Applications and enquiries should be sent to an Astro Staff member or Hannah Wakeford by the deadline shown. Enquiries should include information about which fellowship you are applying for, your proposed work, and why Bristol is a good fit for it. Internal selection will take place prior to award support. Applicants will be informed of the selection process in time for the release of the appropriate funding call and internal deadlines.
