Day Reader pass

Use our physical collection for your own research. The Arts and Social Sciences Library is open to independent researchers over the age of 16.

What is a Day Reader pass?

We welcome Day Readers at the Arts and Social Sciences Library from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Sunday. This will allow you to:

  • A form of photo ID (e.g. Passport, Driving License, University ID or BRP Card) 
  • To be aged 16 or over 

Passes are suspended during busy times in the academic year, such as assessment periods in December and April-May. During these periods, a notice will be put on the visitor pages. 

Before visiting, please confirm the Arts and Social Sciences Library's opening hours as it may be closed on bank holidays or vacation days.

Visitor book retrieval service

You can reserve books from the Arts & Social Sciences library. Any print items from our other libraries (whether available or out on loan) must be requested via our Visitor Book Retrieval Service

Individual borrowing card

Do you have a specific need to borrow University of Bristol resources but are not eligible for our existing SCONUL/Alumni Borrowing Cards? You may be eligible for our individual borrowing card.

Eligibility for this card is based on individual circumstances and there is a subscription fee of £60 per year. If you want to apply, please complete this form, including details of why you need to borrow items from the library. Individual Borrowing Card form 2025 (Office document, 654kB)
