Baroness Valerie Amos
Baroness Valerie Amos is a Guyanese-born British politician. In 2003, she became the first Black woman to serve as a Cabinet minister.
She has served in numerous Parliamentary roles, including the Leader of the House of Lords and Lord President of the Council.
She is currently the Master of University College, Oxford, making her the first Black head of an Oxford college, and the first woman to head University College in particular.
In 2018, Amos was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Bristol in recognition of her accomplishments in both politics and higher education.
