The National Preventive Mechanism Directory
The Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT) is an international Human Rights treaty, with the purpose to protect persons 'deprived of their liberty against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment'. OPCAT requires every State party to establish a 'National Preventive Mechanism' (NPM) within one year. The NPM Directory holds fundamental information about all the designated National Preventive Mechanisms (NPMs) around the world, providing users with quick and easy access to the basic information about each NPM.
