CELS Climate Justice Pro Bono Project

Every year, students of environmental and climate law have the opportunity to apply to participate in our climate justice pro bono project led by Dr Alice Venn in partnership with charity, Legal Response International, providing research and drafting support to developing country delegations and civil society groups at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations. Previous groups have participated in remote preparatory work in the run-up to COP 30 and directly in a team of volunteer lawyers at LRI's London situation room during the 62nd June intersessional meetings of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB 62).

You can find out more about students' experiences of climate pro bono work in their blog and Q&A: How to get into environmental law – Q&A with climate law expert Dr Alice Venn – Law School Student Blog

Working in partnership with the Bristol Law Clinic and the Environmental Law Foundation

Previous cohorts of Environmental Law students have worked on environmental law research projects in partnership with the Environmental Law Foundation which has the mission of 'helping communities access the legal support they need to protect and restore nature'. From 2024-25 these projects ran under the guidance of the Bristol Law Clinic and Professor Margherita Pieraccini.
