Reasonable adjustments for candidates

The University of Bristol is committed to making our recruitment process inclusive and accessible for disabled and neurodiverse candidates.

You can request reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process to help remove barriers related to a disability.

The reason for your adjustment will not be shared with the hiring manager unless you specifically ask us to.

Examples of adjustments

We consider each request individually, based on your needs and what’s reasonable for the role. Our aim is to help you feel confident and perform at your best.

Everyone’s needs are different, and while the list below gives some examples of adjustments we can offer, it’s not exhaustive. If you need something that’s not mentioned here, let us know — we understand that requests are personal and may vary.

Some examples of adjustments include:

  • Relevant documents in accessible formats (e.g. large print or electronic versions)
  • Interview questions or agendas in advance.
  • Extra time or rest breaks during assessments and interviews.
  • Accessible interview locations.
  • Online interview options.
  • Links to test software and set up for online interviews.
  • If you are an external candidate and you need communication support such as a British Sign Language interpreter, you can apply directly to the government’s Access to Work scheme for financial support.
