Dr Moyra Gardeweg (PhD Kingston Polytechnic in 1991) is the CEO of Aurum Consulting, a geological consulting company she founded in 2001. Previously she had worked for the Geological Survey of Chile, become of Head of the Regional geology Department in 1995, the highest level non-political appointment in the organization. At this stage she had become recognised as one of the outstanding geologists in South America. Her interests are physical volcanology, mapping of volcanic systems, hazards and petrology Regional Geology: mapping, stratigraphy, structural control, Geothermal exploration, hydrogeology, mineral exploration and hydro electrical power plants. Although she has largely worked out of academic institutions she has an impressive publication record of papers and geological maps with associated Bulletins. Her output include 36 papers and publications in national and international journals and in Sernageomin series (1981-2013); 33 papers in Conference and Symposium proceedings and approx.imately 70 unpublished reports mostly for clients. She is the preferred geological consultant on Chile for BHP Billiton (the World’s largest mining company). Her highest cited papers include many that were in collaboration with the late Peter Francis (Open University) and RSJ Sparks (Bristol) on Lascar volcano. She was listed in the Award “100 Female Leaders of Chile” in 2007, 2012 and 2013.
