Vernon F. Cormier is a professor of physics at the University of Connecticut, USA. He has served as Vice President of the Seismological Society of America and chair of the American Geophysical Union’s focus group on Study of the Earth’s Deep Interior. He currently serves as an editor of the journal Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors. His research emphasizes deep and three-dimensionally heterogeneous structure of Earth, which has included the effects of descending slabs and fault zones on seismic wavefields, processes of solidification and melting of Earth’s inner core, attenuation of seismic waves, and nuclear treaty verification from seismic waveforms.
