'People Development' is the new name of the team previously known as Staff Development. Accordant with the name change, a new team structure will bring together the 'Academic Staff Development' and 'Professional Services Staff Development' sub-teams under one shared banner. Team members will now be known as 'partners' to reflect the collaborative way in which they work with individuals, teams and the organisation.
The People Development team will continue to deliver the same broad and valued portfolio of skills and careers development for the University's different staff groups, whilst also maximising opportunities to operate jointly across these communities. The team changes have been introduced to better align with the 2030 strategy and, specifically, to contribute to the 'Inspiring and Supporting our People' sub-strategy which commits to developing and retaining talented staff in a competitive market.
Simon Swales, Head of People Development (Programmes and Projects), said, 'This strategic evolution of the People Development team will maximise our resources and exemplify collaborative working whilst also maintaining our targeted interventions for both academics and professional services staff where needed. It embeds our core purpose, which is to support everyone at the University to thrive and develop to their full potential, and to ensure the University has the skills and talent it needs to deliver its strategy.'
A new intranet site reflecting the team changes is currently under construction and will be live soon. In the meantime, staff can still access the full development offer as normal via Develop.
Due to external advertising deadlines at jobs.ac.uk and other media we will require a fully approved Staffing Request Form, job description and advert text by Monday 11th December to ensure we can advertise externally in other media prior to the Christmas break.
Following this date, the earliest closing date for jobs will then be Thursday 4th January 2024.
We will also need completed conditions of contract forms emailed to us by Friday 8th December at the latest to ensure new starters are processed ready for start dates in early January.
We're making changes to our redeployment process in January 2024. The changes are to improve the:
- experience for staff at risk of redundancy
- operation of the redeployment process
Staff experience improvements: We're increasing the level and quality of support that at-risk staff receive, with improved local support delivered by Resourcing. This includes how we prepare staff to find a new role, the advice we provide around skills and transferability, and the resources we signpost to.
Redeployment process improvements: We've redesigned how at-risk staff enter the redeployment pool and how they access vacancies. This includes a new job board for people in the redeployment pool, giving them access to vacancies before they are advertised elsewhere and replacing the current matching process.
The planned changes have been informed by the feedback we've received from staff who have been through the redeployment process.
Next steps: We'll provide more detailed information on the changes over the coming weeks.
There will be information and guidance for:
- Staff known to be in the redeployment pool at the time of the changes
- Line and recruiting managers
