Internal/External Advertising

The University advertising policy for all Professional Services roles has remain unchanged since it’s emergency introduction at the start of the pandemic. This includes all roles in the Admin and Professional, Technical and Operational Job Families (A, T &O)

The University wishes to move to an environment where all these Professional Services roles are advertised internally/externally at the same time once redeployment checks have been completed except for during restructuring where roles may need to be ringfenced to specific groups of staff.

Moving fully to this position before the Career Development Programme aims have been realised risks pulling against the desired objectives of the programme. In the longer term, it is anticipated that the PS Career Development Programme will support reinforcement of a culture that enables and supports internal staff to recognise that they hold the advantage as an internal candidate in any open competitive selection process.

To support the transition phase, we are refining the current arrangements with immediate effect. The following roles will be advertised internally once the URP stage has been completed:

· Roles in the admin and professional job family grade D-J will be advertised internally only first EXCEPT for F grade student administrator roles which will continue as per the current agreed arrangements for concurrent internal/external advertising.

· Roles in the Technical job family grade D-J will continue to be advertised internally only first

· All other Admin/Professional and Technical roles outside grades D-J can be advertised internally/externally at the same time

· Operational roles up to and including Grade G should be advertised internally and externally at the same time due to the lack of an internal pipeline for these roles.

· Operational roles Grades H-J should be advertised internally only first

We expect to review these arrangements in 2023 to move us towards the University ambition in support of the workforce diversification agenda.
