An eye on the environment

The University's Print Services leads sustainable best practice.

Winner of the overall Green Impact Award for 2013/14, Print Services was recognised for its commitment to environmental standards in the printing industry, generating top results for customers and providing a positive working environment for its staff.

"We use both recycled and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) paper for our customers", explained Amanda Gallacher, Head of Print Services. "We also recycle almost everything – from packaging to reusing envelopes. This is good for the environment and keeps business costs down".

With its arsenal of new print presses, Print Services provides high quality printing and production for both the University community and private customers. The team has also rolled out less wasteful shared printers in offices across the University.

But it's not just about the printing; it's also about the people working there. The team set up a number of initiatives that focus on wellbeing in the workplace – from litho specialist Kate's lunchtime yoga classes to fresh juices delivered by driver Steve.

"Steve is an ace-juicer and creates tasty concoctions to order twice a week", says Amanda. "The juices give us all a real boost! Even the bluey-green one we call Swamp-Water", she laughs. "It still tastes good though!"
