'Class of 1990' reunion, November 2024

David Richards, Tony Hoare, Paul Glennie, and GeogSoc Presidents ()Katie Joyner and Izzy Doherty-Ozobiane) and Brycgstowe editor (Madeleine Bain) hosted 25 alumni from the graduating class of 1990.

Alumni Network Spring Showcase, March 2021

It was our sincere pleasure to host former members and friends of the School during a weekend online event that showcased current activities and consider future initiatives for alumni, staff and students.

**People | Spaces | Places : Shaping Geography at Bristol for 100 years**

We celebrated 100 years of Geography at Bristol at an online evening reception. Members of staff from the past six decades reflected on the people and spaces that have contributed to the success of the School of Geographical Sciences and invited guests to share past experiences with fieldwork, for example, in breakout groups online.

**Shaping the next century of Geography at Bristol with GeogSoc students**

Current GeogSoc students hosted an online event. They will briefly illustrated current activity, drawing upon their experience of Geography in Bristol and beyond; there have been many changes, but much remains the same.

Centenary 2020

As a result of Covid19 situation, many of our planned events were cancelled, hence the emergence of the online 'Start of the Next Century of Geography event' in 2021.

  • Centenary PhD bursaries

The School awarded two Centenary PhD bursaries, one in Physical Geography and one in Human Geography.

  • Centenary mural

LucasAntics completed the first part of the Centenary mural in July 2022. Details can be found on the University's Instagram account and a launch event will take place in late 2022. 

Before the Covid-19 situation took hold, GeogSoc hosted two successful events as part of the Centenary programme:

  • Thursday January 30th 2020 - Centenary Globe Ball, modelled along the same lines as the Annual Dinner Dances of yesteryear

  • Thursday 6th February 2020 - Alumni Careers event for current students, featuring advice in person from graduates from the past 15 years or so.
