Chair: Dr. Simon Brownhill (TLC Co-Director)

How does the planet come to matter in your research?

In this session, Kate and Alf will raise questions about what it means to be researching in a time of social and ecological precarity. They will offer a range of ways of conceptualising ecological and socio-ecological relations (in an educational context) and draw out implications for philosophy and methodology. Questions raised will include: How do we conceptualise "nature" and its relation to "culture"? What does it mean to consider the more-than-human in a context of racialised and social inequalities? How do we balance thinking from place with the need for some planetary awareness? What is the role of traditional "disciplines" in the future of schools or universities?

This session will include time for small and whole group discussion - researchers from all areas of the School are welcome!
