Pathways to Doctoral Success

What is the programme?

Pathways to Doctoral Success is an optional programme of events and training for University of Bristol PGR Scholarship students who identify as being of Black heritage. We have included a brief overview of the activities to be provided during the academic year 2024/25 below.

Why was it developed?

At Bristol, we are committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive environment, where students from all backgrounds are represented and able to reach their full potential. The Bristol Doctoral College (BDC) supports this by working with Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) across the University to enhance their experience through development and training opportunities.

The programme has been developed out of feedback from students so we can ensure students have all the support they need for their transition into research.

What does it involve?

A brief overview of the activities to be provided during the academic year 2024/25 is below:

  • Programme Welcome event hosted by the Bristol Doctoral College.

Giving students an informal opportunity to meet other programme participants, and to hear more details of the programme.

  • Facilitated networking sessions

Informal sessions hosted by the Bristol Doctoral College, to provide an opportunity to meet with other programme participants throughout the academic year and help students develop and maintain their peer support network.

  • Professional development workshops

Three development workshops, aiming to enhance participants' personal and professional development as researchers, and to help them prepare for progressing into their second year of their PhD.
