This course provides both theoretical & practical training in local anaesthesia. It covers ethical & legal responsibilities within current professional guidelines, as well as a review of local anaesthetic solutions & equipment. Participants will revisit relevant anatomy & techniques for local infiltration & inferior alveolar nerve block, alongside common complications, contraindications & troubleshooting.
The practical component includes hands-on opportunity to deliver local anaesthetic to phantom head models in a clinical setting. This focuses on patient & site preparation, identification of anatomical landmarks, & the delivery of effective pre- & post-operative instructions.
Course Objectives:
- Understand the current position regarding prescription only medicines.
- Recognise the current local anesthetic solutions & equipment available.
- Demonstrate a safe technique & delivery of infiltration & block anesthesia on phantom head models.
- Safely manage any complications.
This course will focus on updating the theoretical & practical aspects of LA delivery and not the prescribing of POM. You will need to provide your GDC number to register for this course.
