Why did you choose Bristol for your undergraduate degree?

I chose Bristol for both the city and the course.  I loved the culture of the city, with thriving arts and music scenes, lots of green space, and a great range of societies at the university itself.  The Biomedical Sciences BSc appealed to me because of its flexibility – at 18, I had no idea what I wanted to specialise in and was able to get an understanding of the key fields before choosing neuroscience. This changed my life!  I’ve loved the subject ever since and am grateful for the opportunity to discover it during my undergraduate degree.

How did your degree influence what you went on to next?

My undergraduate experience was very fulfilling, especially the research opportunities.  Supportive staff helped me secure a summer research assistant role at the university, and my final-year project was very hands-on.  These opportunities helped me choose to stay in academia and really benefited my Master’s application – I wouldn’t be where I am without them.

What advice would you offer to students contemplating a place at Bristol?

The course is important but remember you’re choosing somewhere to live for 3+ years!  Make sure to get a feel for any city you’re applying to, and if you’re thinking of Bristol you’ve got my vote.
