Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
Learn more about our Campus Division Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee.
What we do
As a Division, we are strongly committed to equality of opportunity, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
The Campus Division EDI Committee meets once a month. We aim to help improve our experience of work and to help challenge discrimination. We also assist with actions that ensure we can attract, recruit, and develop talented individuals from different backgrounds across all levels of our Division. Fostering EDI is a cross cutting theme of the University’s Vision and Strategy 2030, and our work aligns with this.
Our mission statement
We work collaboratively with the Campus Division Leadership Team, HR and other EDI Committees. Our aim is to show that EDI is for everyone and improve our staff's experience in the workplace. We do this through advice, signposting and supporting the delivery of initiatives.
Support for staff
Staff who have witnessed, experienced or been accused of unacceptable behaviour can speak with a Stand Up Speak Out Advocate. They are trained members of University staff who can help signpost to appropriate forms of support.
HR Business Partners are also available if staff would like advice around EDI matters.
If staff are not sure who to contact regarding an issue relating to EDI, they can email us at cd-edi@bristol.ac.uk and we will signpost them to support.
Resources for staff
We are in the process of creating recruitment and training toolkits to encourage more inclusive practices within the Division.
Framework of Behaviours
Our Framework of Behaviours is a guide to show staff what we expect from them around treating each other with respect.
Examples of previous work
Throughout the year, we support a number of campaigns, observation and awareness months, and hook days relating to EDI. These have included:
- International Women’s Day
- Black History Month
- Pride Month.
Staff engagement
In 2021 and 2022, we ran workplace experience surveys to gain a better understanding of our staff’s working culture. Both times, around 300 staff took part. We used the results of these surveys to focus our future work and priorities.
In 2024, we hosted feedback sessions to understand staff’s perceptions of our Committee and learn how we can better communicate with them.
