Action Research and Critical Inquiry in Organisations
Bringing people together to inquire critically and creatively into organisational and social issues.
ARCIO is a space for critical, participatory and creative inquiry into forms of organising and activity that support transformations. As such, we are interested not only in understanding the world as it is, but in building collective capacities to imagine and enact workable alternatives.
We aim to foster engagement beyond conventional academic formats, experimenting with new ways to share ideas and creating vibrant spaces for discussion and action-taking among academics, practitioners, activists, artists and community partners.
Our research, teaching and public engagement activities are located at the intersection of:
- social justice, equality and activism;
- feminist and decolonial epistemologies;
- participatory, narrative, arts-based and other alternative methodologies; and
- organising for sustainability and better futures
Our empirical and theoretical engagement with these themes includes partnerships with a diverse range of social actors and communities and is supported by activities that create opportunities for people to learn with and from one another. This includes interactive workshops, a seminar series with local and international speakers, pedagogy-focused events, writing retreats, a reading group, and PGR support and collaboration.
While we are based in the University of Bristol Business School, our membership spans the social sciences and beyond, thereby enabling opportunities for interdisciplinary partnerships and co-production.
