Come and join Brigstow for a day-long gathering bringing together researchers, artists, and practitioners to explore practices that centre the body as a tool for understanding and expression.

Through performances, workshops, and discussions, we’ll explore what “embodiment” means in research and how it shapes how we experience and communicate meaning—both with and beyond words.

Expect a playful and thought-provoking day of interaction, reflection, and discussion, exploring everything from how we move through the world (and what we are or aren’t aware of) to how technology can shape embodied experience.

Featured session:

The day begins with a performance and talk from Dr. Mark Broomfield (Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing, SUNY Geneseo; Founder of Performance as Social Change™).

Drawing on his book Black Queer Dance: Gay Men and the Politics of Passing for Almost Straight, Mark will explore themes of movement, expression, and freedom in contemporary culture.

Sessions include:

  • Future Soundings workshop and walk with Future Places Toolkit
  • Making Bodies Lively – Lisa May Thomas explores how bodies can be understood as sites of knowledge and enquiry
  • Performing the University – with Rachael Clerke and Will Hunter, exploring how embodied practice can communicate research and participant experience
  • Resting spaces and crip time - Raquel Meseguer explores rest, horizontality and ‘crip time’ through a gentle, inclusive guided rest
  • Future Soundings performance - Duncan Speakman, Paul Clarke and Jessica Warren (Hoffmann) offer a shared, embodied experience of alternative futures for Bristol

What to expect:

  • A relaxed, informal atmosphere—come as you are
  • Opportunities to take part at your own pace
  • A mix of larger group activities and smaller breakout sessions
  • Lunch and refreshments provided
