Pedagogic research and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL)

A key priority for BILT is to encourage the scholarship of learning and teaching and pedagogic research across the University.  A number of pedagogic research groups exist across the university offering various levels of support to current and potential pedagogic researchers. BILT aims to work with these groups to develop and improve support open to all staff.  

In 23/24 BILT funded an Associate Project focused on exploring the support needs of academic staff engaging or wishing to engage in pedagogic research.  In 24/25 the project built on this research by developing a central web space and online training for those new to pedagogic research, offering advice and support. In 26/27 the project will focus on:

  • a research ethics pilot where projects within defined parameters can gain faster, robust ethics agreement 
  • pedagogic research training - developing patthways for pedagogic research development 
  • building Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and leadership capacity in schools
