Current research and data collection
ALSPAC is busy with new and planned data collection work, from clinic assessments to questionnaires and sub-studies, involving all three generations of participants.
G1 participants (original children, now in mid 30s)
- Pregnancy and Parenting Questionnaires (ongoing) - capturing detailed questionnaire data on pregnancy and parenting experiences.
- Pregnancy and Parenting Clinic Visits (ongoing) – capturing detailed health data on pregnancy and parenting through clinic visits.
- Moods in the Moment (Nov 2025-May 2026) – using smartphones and smartwatches to track daily experiences and physiology, identifying short-term depression patterns and risk factors.
- CycleTrack (from Feb 2026) – a joint study with Born in Bradford using wearables, questionnaires, and biological samples to better understand menstrual health and heavy menstrual bleeding.
- Health Effects of Diets in Young Children (Nov-Dec 2025) – focus groups with parents to gather views on feeding young children to help shape research on diet, growth, and child health.
- Exploring Lung Function (from Spring 2026) – advanced lung tests and scans to understand why some young adults develop persistently low lung function and increased COPD risk.
- Annual Questionnaire (from May 2026) – including questions on fertility and parenting choices.
G0 participants (original parents, now in mid to late 60s)
- G0 @30 Clinic follow-up (February 2025 – April 2026) – in-person assessments of 1,200 mothers focusing on vision, hearing, and cognitive function.
- Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction in Women (April 2025 – Dec 2026) – a sub-study in Oxford using imaging and biomarker testing to examine cardiovascular changes linked to previous hypertensive pregnancies, comparing data with their children in the CLARITY study.
- Menopausal symptoms (from Jan 2026) – using focus groups and questionnaires to understand menopause symptoms and experiences,
- Memory Over Time (from Nov 2025) – annual online cognitive testing to measure changes in memory, attention, and thinking.
G2 participants (children of our G1 cohort, born from 2007 onwards)
- Clinic visits (ongoing) – in-person assessments at multiple child ages to capture growth, health, and development.
- Questionnaires (ongoing) - capturing detailed questionnaire data on child health and development.
