January 2026

This meeting was chaired by the public member co-chair. The APPAP group met to review two upcoming questionnaires. The meeting included an overview of the annual G1 questionnaire and a menstrual health questionnaire. Participants provided feedback on the layout, clarity, and length of the questionnaires, noting areas where language could be more accessible, sections that might be sensitive, and the importance of including options to skip questions or respond “prefer not to answer.” There was also discussion of how questionnaires function on mobile devices and the potential for improving user experience with visuals, links, and clearly defined sections.

The group emphasised the importance of balancing comprehensive data collection with participant comfort, particularly in sections on family intentions, reproductive health, and sensitive topics such as pregnancy loss or surgical procedures. Suggestions included providing trigger warnings, helpline information, and resources to explain technical terms. Participants were reassured that G1 retention remains a priority, with opt-out options introduced where appropriate. The team also confirmed that APPAP participants will receive a small pay increase in line with NIHR guidelines. Overall, the meeting reinforced the value of PPI input in ensuring questionnaires are accessible, clear, and considerate of participant experiences.
